About us

Queer Veterans Project is a photo-documentary about LGBTQ+ veterans who served in the US military. It pairs portraits of queer veterans in their present with oral history narratives about their decision to enlist, their negotiation of queerness while serving, and the impact of the military on their identity. It aims to create a platform for speaking about the struggles LGBTQ+ people faced – and continue to face – in the US military and seeing these individuals in their dignity, strength, and pride today.
